Question Shortlisting

I have heard that in some trusts where large number of doctors apply for a post that only 1 in 5 of all applicants CVs are looked at and all others rejected. I have also heard that in other hospitals after short listing the few outstanding candidates the other identical candidates who meet the essential criteria (but who are too many in number all to be short listed) are put in a hat and drawn at random. Not being outstanding and never winning in raffles. This seems unfair. Has anyone heard the same stories or are my friends scaremongering me. If these stories are right what can we do to change practice?

Default shortlisting

Hi, new to the site and being nosey but think I can ansewer your question. It would be discriminatory to only look at a proportion of cvs submitted for a post. Can't believe it happens but would be interested to know more. The practice of taking all candidates who are the same on paper and drawing them out randomly however is common when there are 100-200 identical cnadidates applying for the post. Rach, HR.

Default I Agree

Newdoc your not alone. I recently heard that all applicants CV’s are stacked together and thrown across a room, the five that go the furthest get an interview. Since hearing this, I always attach a heavy duty, metal paper clip to my CV for that extra weight.
